1,000+ parts per machine. Lead times cut from 8 weeks to 3.

Carbon Robotics builds the Laser Weeder, an AI-powered machine that helps farmers eliminate weeds using lasers and computer vision. With 175+ units shipped to 15+ countries, sourcing thousands of custom parts was becoming a bottleneck. Jiga changed that.

The Challenge

Carbon Robotics develops and manufactures the Laser Weeder, an AI-powered implement that farmers tow behind their tractors to identify and eliminate weeds using lasers and computer vision. With over 175 units shipped to more than 15 countries, all manufactured in Washington, the company faced growing sourcing challenges as production scaled.

Each machine has over a thousand parts on the BOM. Every component demands tight tolerances and precise specs. Off-the-shelf parts often had lead times of several months, sometimes half a year. And custom parts meant finding vendors, requesting quotes, bringing in test parts for validation, and managing it all across disconnected channels.

Some of the sourcing issues we had before working with Jiga was the variety of vendors we had to work with. I had to find a vendor first. I had to ask for quotes. Most of the time, we had to bring in test parts to make sure everything was up to our standards.

Beyond finding and qualifying vendors, keeping track of everything was its own challenge. What was on order, what was arriving, what still needed to be placed – all of it lived in scattered emails, spreadsheets, and phone calls.

Managing communications between those vendors was always a difficulty. It was incredibly time consuming to keep track of what was on order, what was coming in, and what we still needed to order.

The Solution

Jiga gave Carbon Robotics one place to manage their entire sourcing workflow.

Instead of contacting vendors individually and tracking everything across emails and spreadsheets, Colton could send RFQs to multiple manufacturers at once, compare pricing and lead times side by side, and communicate directly with each supplier, all from a single dashboard.

I can send quotes out to several different manufacturers at the same time. I can see when they come in. I can compare all the pricing. I look at lead times. I have it all there in one spot.

I can talk to each individual vendor based on that order. Response times are fabulous. I get responses back within the day, even if it’s overseas. My overall experience working with Jiga has been super smooth, super efficient. Working with Jiga has had a significant and profound impact on Carbon Robotics.
